What is Sciatica?

Sciatica refers to pain radiating into the legs, buttocks and lower back. It is caused by compression or inflammation of the sciatic nerve.


Symptoms can be shooting pain, tingling, numbness, burning, and muscle weakness lower back, buttocks and legs.

Causes and Risks

Sciatica can be caused by spasm of the piriformis muscle as well as spinal stenosis due to herniated discs.

Treatment and Prevention

Treatments include:

  • Physical therapy 
  • Exercise 
  • Epidural Steroid Injections
  • Stretching
